Daily inspiration, coffee shop furniture

This picture that I found online, I believe is from a new place in Melbourne. What I like with it, is actually the whole environment. It’s mainly the light but also the brick walls that are painted in white. The table with black base & wooden board. Those classic chairs that has been painted in pale pastels & the untreated floor. I also like the built-in wood shelves with the few things that has been stored inside. They are more apparent with the white wall behind, in the background. The pendants, they become like the icing on the cake.

Waste wood or …

They are there, visible, but still, they don’t take up too much space. They’re quite common & widely used in various environments. If you are interested of home furnishing & like to keep up with parts of the development, then you can’t have missed them. What is this all about? What is it I’ve seen so much of in recent times? It’s nothing special really, just these pieces of wood furnitures that looks like driftwood or wood residues.

They can be used in the livingroom or bedroom. On the patio or infront of the fire place. They function everywhere. I’ve seen them in different shapes, either natural, redesigned or painted. I must say that I prefer them in white or black, of course. They could look really great depending on where they are used. It depends on the color & the room / space in which they end up in. But, isn’t that’s the fact with most things. Things in the right place will always come to their advantage, in one way or another.

Something in rattan

I was looking around for a laundry basket the other day. We have a stylish thing in black & white at home, with good handles that’s roomy inside. It has now become a bit flimsy & worn so it’s about time to trade up. Rattan wasn’t top of mind & probably not the type of material I generally would look for, although a chair or chairs,would suit me fine. I’ve always liked rattan in the summer, in the garden.

My mother in law had period when she painted baskets in a typical blue colour from her childhood. She then decorated them in a white pattern that became her signum. I had these baskets everywhere, in the kitchen, in the bathroom, garage, playroom & the backyard. I was quite tired of the blue colour & rattan, for quite a while to come, after that. Natural materials are nice in general & rattan has the advantage to age neat & becomes more beautiful with time. I am hereby healed from past experience & ready for this beautiful material … colorless, white, black or with some color of some sort.

This is an image that still my hunger for a quiet moment without a lot of noise or requirements around me. I feel the need from time to time. A beautiful view, a fireplace, a stack of books a cup of hot tea – and I would find myself in paradise.

Black & wood / 214

Wood used & worn down until it fades or new timber that has its color & strength left … all kinds of wood are a luxurious feel. A natural materials that live & breathe with the house & the individuals who use it. It is neat with all types of materials & colors … regardless what applies right now. Timeless, simply! I’m very fond of wood & I use materials that I prefer, of course. It may well be pine, birch or oak, in the first place. Ash might be nice at times, but a little too lifeless for my taste. But as usual, it’s vital how to put it all together. The mix of furniture with flooring materials, colors, fabrics & lighting … in combination with the room size. Even the way the light falls from the windows. It may look a bit pale, yellow or rather, without natural freshness.

I’m right now very fond of darker wood combined with black. A feeling of the fifties without that specific style. Well, with that style too actually, since it’s very appealing. I’m more after the contemporary style with soul…not styled or just copied right off but well thought out & detailed. Take a look at the first two images below. That’s the feeling I mean. But by all means, different woods combined with black details – it always works.
