It’s also nice to not have the usual top cabinets, which means you get a more airy impression. Definitely easy to be several who cooks at the same time.

It’s good, at times, to take a step back to get some distance to things & events, to see things from different perspectives. I sometimes feel that I get blinded by speed. There’s so much to be done, decisions to be made, things to be agreed on & so on. If I don’t constantly discusses with family, friends or with concerned, I’m afraid I would end up into habitual behavior, to do as I have always done, see stuff & things from a monotonous perspective.
I guess that I’ve learnt that it’s not about how fast you run, but how well it gets, in the end. That it’s not about quantity but rather quality. You just have to be patient & see things in a longer term perspective. In this case, it is nothing serious we are talking about, just different angles from interior perspective. Mostly!

There is no major difference between men & women if we exclude the physical. We are relatively similar, which of course has been the great art of understanding since the dawn of time. What my guys thinks is neat, is according to my taste preferense too. Now I realize of course that we have affected each other because we live together. I prefer freestanding storage solutions rather then the integrated. Those simple, flexible & movable benches preferably, because of the airy impression they give. They don’t take up space & aren’t clumsy either. The good thing is the surface you gain, for the nice things. (Including drawers or open shelfes for the flexibility). On the other hand, how flexible do you need to be … I mean, it’s not that I decorate or rearrange things every other week or so. It wouldn’t work with my way of being. It’s one thing to have a deep interest for things, another, to live & breath your passion. Which can be done in different ways, of course.
I’ve gone from actively breathing an interest, to a more pleasurable distance. May sound strange but I get my fair share through magazines, blogs, some exhibitions, shop visits, where I inevitably look more at the visual impression, decor, collections, shop windows, lighting, etc. than to shop, in real sense. (Well, I do manage to do some shopping, to be honest). Sometimes you eat with your eyes, which is a bit of my principle when I shop. I like to do window shopping – you know, to stroll around, stop here & there, check out news, new colors, certain pattern mix, a particular angle of a wall, floor material – things that happens automatically. Whilst I don’t miss the actual purchase, when needed.

Benches in various forms are invaluable. They fill up in a nice way, are functional & simple to use. I’m pretty fond of the bench as a furniture – both as a seating place as well as to store things on – very practical. We have had benches in different rooms from time to time. Perfect in the hallway, kitchen, bedroom, basement … or outdoor. Nowadays, I use more upholstered stools in smaller sizes. Right now we have two in front of the couch, both for tired legs but also to use as extra space for the tea-tray or anything else that’s needed. A bench that has been around for quite a few years now, has had to move from the hall into the living room & have now ended up in the dining room. That’s what happens when you move a lot. What once functioned in a room work better in another – hopefully, that is.
I’m a bit nostalgic, I can’t throw away things, especially furniture that our children have grown up with & which they see as part of their childhood. With everything new, you get a home that looks like an exhibition. We ended up in that situation when we had our furniture in containers. We lived in a ready furnished place, for a longer period while we were looking for a house. Things around you becomes part of you without real economic value. It’s stuff that has sentimental value, things that can not be measured in money. As for example an old bench 🙂
