Tag Archives: brick walls

Here in Australia we have an endless number of houses built in masonry in different styles and in different colour variations. From the red, to white, dark brick as well as black. Incredibly beautiful houses from the mid-1800s, to the new modern buildings. The materials range from polished white, rough brick to a combination of modern wooden & old brick. I appreciate when one attempts to retain the old house & adds to or builds with the new. Two eras that interact is always charming.

I have not always been fond of bricks but it has slowly crept on, like falling in love, with the fabulous surroundings that influences. Especially restaurants & coffee shops around Sydney’s suburbs. Take a look & see what you think!

Daily inspiration, restaurant

A very nice restaurant environment that inspires. Brick walls, wall lights with round black lampshades, leather sofas mixed with wood furniture & cool graphic signs that stands out, without disturbing the overall impression. Cool & sophisticated at the same time.

Another brick in the wall

To live in a brick house in an old area with other similar houses, gets you thinking of the material that’s been used. Strangely enough, I’m of course aware of these houses that you can find all over the town. And a lot on my street, it’s a typical construction materials. Yet it’s not obvious with things until you get close. We went to visit a brick factory which is located not far from here, where you get to walk around on a sky-bridge that runs around the entire brickyard, press the buttons to hear the stories from the past, look at the production & see how buildings emerged and so on. Doesn’t sound so exciting maybe but it was actually interesting. It made me look at things differently & definitely appreciate these buildings around me in a more valuable way. Wood has otherwise always been the building material that I’m used to.

Well, let’s take a look at bricks of various kinds – mostly from the inside.

Lofty places / 149

Hej dear friends,

My recent posts has been about houses & about brick in interiors so I thought a follow up with an entry about loft housing, which I believe would be a rather good matching. I can’t help thinking if there’s something hidden behind this need. Makes you wonder, given that most of what we do, we do unconsciously. I guess it’s about a longing for something of our own, an inherent need for many people. These feelings & needs are important to uphold, to look forward to, to dream about. But you have not wasted your time whether if what you’re looking forward is about to happen or not … as I see it … because these feelings held you warm, alive & inspired meanwhile. To feel is to live 🙂

So while I look forward to my own place, I’ll keep an eye out for nice places, dreaming & planning for what’s to come. Right? And you know what – it’s not necessary with a lofty place. These images are only for pure inspiration.
