Simple separation

There are many clever solutions to room dividers. Whether you build them, custom made, or perhaps created via furniture placement or by removable wall screens. It all depends on the layout of the room & the architectural features. The difficult thing is to decide what you want & need, what material to use & whether it is temporary or long term. I am talking about simple separation of different surfaces depending of need & function.

Layer upon layer

The other day on the beach … a lady arrived rather heavily dressed, covering herself from the sun. Well, it’s impossible to stay like that in the heat. So she started taking of her BIG scarf, then her blouse & her t-shirt. Then she took off her sun hat following with shoes & her socks. And for every layer she took off, she then smeared on a layer of sun cream. This took a long while for her to do. She was fully occupied, that by the time she was finished, she went on with the parasol to get it attached in the sand.

To do that, she started to put on her clothes, layer by layer until she completed the procedure with her sun hat. Again, just to keep away from the sun. Well, once she got that done, she sat down to finally enjoy the heat. But it only took her a short while to change her mind. So up again, on with each piece, socks, shoes, sun hat, sun glasses & her big scarf & she went off …  just to walk, not more then 20 meters to the coffee shop in the corner. I stopped watching by that time so you will unfortunately not know how this story ended. I guess she went back with her – whatever she bought – to start all over again with all her garments. Just to find out that she needed to visit the bathroom. And here we go agin…

It got me thinking anyway. But not so much that I had to blog about people or behaviours but more so about layers.

Pink shades

Occasionally, I get a craving for a certain colour – an influence from somewhere … AND I find my self searching or looking for that colour AND of course, I see it almost everywhere. That comes without saying.  … as a letter in the mail ( swedish expression ). A soft, pleasant pink color that’s not too harsh or sharp in tone. That goes well with grey, white or brown, black. Just the right colour without getting too pastel pink, if you get what I mean. Simply soft for the eye, soothing, warming, inviting, promising & up to date.

I pulled together some images with one thing in common – this colour. Or should I say those colours, maybe … they differ slightly in shades. Just when I start to get used to the colour, I bet that something else comes in the way. Whether this is another colour or … only time will tell 🙂

Stylish solitaires

Here & there you see ladders standing, either casually or deliberately, in different environments … often without one notes them immediately. When you are scrolling through magazines, catalogues or other, you can many times find things that recurs, in one way or another. Either it’s a trendy thing or just props which works in the environment. Blogs work that way many times. Stylish appealing images shown on a popular blog, explodes soon within the blogosphere. You get to see those pictures almost everywhere. To that extent, that they almost become worn out. There is nothing wrong in it  of course, that’s how it works when we have great interest in something whether it’s in interior design, fashion, food, photography … or whatever it may be. (you notice how limited my interests are, right?)

Anyway, to get to the point, all of a sudden I found myself seeing  ladders everywhere. Used as a furniture to store things on – hang clothes, jewelry, textiles … or to use in the bathroom or just lean against the wall in the living room … or just as a solitaire or statement somewhere…even if it’s just to climb on. It makes a difference in the room, no matter what. Don’t you think so?

Benches

Benches in various forms are invaluable. They fill up in a nice way, are functional & simple to use. I’m pretty fond of the bench as a furniture – both as a seating place as well as to store things on – very practical.  We have had benches in different rooms from time to time. Perfect in the hallway, kitchen, bedroom, basement … or outdoor. Nowadays, I use more upholstered stools in smaller sizes. Right now we have two in front of the couch, both for tired legs but also to use as extra space for the tea-tray or anything else that’s needed. A bench that has been around for quite a few years now, has had to move from the hall into the living room & have now ended up in the dining room. That’s what happens when you move a lot. What once functioned in a room work better in another – hopefully, that is.

I’m a bit nostalgic, I can’t throw away things, especially furniture that our children have grown up with & which they see as part of their childhood. With everything new, you get a home that looks like an exhibition. We ended up in that situation when we had our furniture in containers. We lived in a ready furnished place, for a longer period while we were looking for a house. Things around you becomes part of you without real economic value. It’s stuff that has sentimental value, things that can not be measured in money. As for example an old bench 🙂
