Durian
Singapore’s official fruit is the durian. Some people regards the durian as having a pleasantly sweet fragrance, whereas others find the aroma overpowering with an unpleasant odour. The smell evokes reactions & the persistence of its odour, which may linger for several days, has led to the fruit’s banishment from certain hotels & public transportation. Despite the stench, durian is considered to be extremely healthy.
The Esplanade building next to Marina Bay is inspired by this “beloved” fruit.
