We have been eating these buns on Constitution Day since the Middle Ages & it’s said that King Adolf Fredrik died because he greedily stuffed 14 semlor in 1771.
The celebration of Fatty Day comes from the Christian holiday established when fasting for 40 days before Easter in order to eat properly. During Lent, one was supposed to live spartanly, not eat meat or feast in any other way, so it was about partying properly on Fattiday.
