Daily inspiration, rug

It’s nice with open spaces so that the whole environment comes to its right. If you then can have carpets on display easily visible on durable wood floors, well, then, happiness is complete. Especially if it’s handmade fine carpets with nice colour & shape. Especially if it’s handmade fine carpets with nice colour & shape – well selected to fit on the surface & in the room.

Rug (s) candy

l’ve been looking for rugs to our livingroom but also to our sons rooms too. It’s not that easy really. There’s a lot of rugs out there, amongst to choose between. Great variety but still. One moment I decide to go for an oriental style & thereafter to choose a more modern, simple & one-colored rug. I will leave it for a while. We have currently white rugs & they are looking a bit tired & worn now. My son went to Sweden for a couple of weeks & brought back a black & white three meter long runner in plastic. Pappelinas famous design. I’m thinking about the right place for it – probably the hallway. That’s a good start 🙂

Rugs is such a beautiful decor item to dress a home by adding colour & texture, to add personality & a homey feeling, to add care & warmth. It makes such a difference for the home & for comfort. Rugs are so valuable in terms of reducing the noise level as well as creating warmth through choice of materials. If you then mixes patterns & colors a bit as you feel, then you can get it really cozy.

Oriental dreams

I’m dreaming about oriental rugs – Kelim, Persian, Pakistani, Afghan, etc. The hand knotted rugs with specific oriental patterns & colours. It has to be authentic & genuine too. Why on earth would you bother, if not. Those with plastic back  & in synthetic material might look good nowadays but it’s the feeling of the pure material, the ancient craftsmanship, the origin & the history. That’s powerful! It’s always interesting & impressive with talent. Something to cherish when you realise that it’s not just any pattern but a solid foundation of culture as well as storytelling, through a craft. Those aesthetically striking colour combinations that appeals & materials that last a lifetime, at least. Not to forget, how easy & smooth these rugs melt into any environment. They do fit almost everywhere. So yep, oriental is my thing right now.

I drove my son the other day to a place where he was to meet someone for a quick catch-up. We went for a walk after, on the main street & just stumbled over a big shop with fantastic handmade rugs, from all over the world. I could have stayed there for hours & just continued to listen to the shop owner’s extreme competence about these beautiful objects. Desirable & precious oriental rugs to dream about 🙂

Pretentious perhaps / 213

I can’t make up my mind about skin / leather such as cowhide & the like. I don’t think that I’m fond of them – only to be used as a decoration in the home. The reason being that the animals need them more than we do. It might for some, sound a little pretentious but there are actually other options, in my opinion. I can’t say I mind others using them, it’s up to each one, of course. I understand the attraction as well as the aesthetics of it but still can’t bring myself to it fully. But so what, it’s not a big deal really.

Anyhow, it ‘s interesting how different it can look in different environments. As always, when you mix materials, colours & furniture in a good way. If you then use your creative side to bring on your own touch … well, then, just occupy the place & enjoy. No matter if it’s pretentious with cowhide or not!
