Randomly brown / 179

Hej friends,

I had coffee in a beautiful little chocolate shop a while ago & the coffee part is located below the ground floor. The store it self is not so overly special but the serving area is very nice, cozy & inviting. They have obviously decided to work with the shop fittings in various shades of brown which in this case was the right choice. The lighting, colors, furniture & store expression was quite appealing & inviting. The environment was excellent together with the range … lovely pralines of all sorts, sizes, taste, shape…that is just waiting to be chosen! And when you add to the smell of coffee, then it’s easy to think that you are in heaven.

Brown is one of my favourite colours. I do prefer to combine it together with white, beige & black or just different brown shades. That is me, the predictable one. Well, it’s all about flavor & there are just as much tastes as there are people, of course, right?

Minty scent / 159

Hej friends,

I’ve been browsing the web for fun while waiting for my darling to meet up. Thought it looked like mint is in favour, at least on a lot of websites & blogs. At the beginning of my professional life, I lived in a small town for a year where I rented a small apartment which I furnished in white, pine & mint green. I would never think of that colour as a choice today, for sure. But like most things, it’s always nice to relive stuff & things at a distance. Been there, done that…feels good sometimes. Especially when one wouldn’t like to do it again. It’s one of the advantages of getting older:)

Mint can be a bit too cute sometimes, for my taste. It needs to be mixed up with one or two other colours & materials to become more appealing. Concrete or stripes gives an interesting look. There’s so many possibilities for whatever style or look. In addition, there are infinite shades of mint. The sky is the limit, as always.

Lightblue / 162

Hej friends,

Lightblue, a color I think of as rather unusual, these days. Not on kids maybe but generally on adults, in fashion, buildings or whatever. Some colours seems to just disappear for a long time. It’s like they’re not relevant anymore, for some reasons. It’s the same thing with, you know, actors, cities, music, food. I guess it has to do with what trendsetters, ad’s agencies, magazines etc. communicates. We are what we are presented, one might almost say. Too much around us are influenced by  others.

Don’t know what you think about light blue, but I liked what I saw, anyway.

Grass green / 152

Hej dear friends,

The most recent entries have been pretty colorless, so I’m going with a green theme today. Especially when the summer is around the corner back home in Sweden. It suits as well over here in Australia despite the autumn, the weather is just so nice, most of the time. So this morning we headed out to a nice restaurant where we met  up with a group of friends for early breakfast, – as always, a pleasure to spend time with people I love. It struck me that we now have lived in Sydney nearly five years & that we’ve known those particular friends as long. A rather cool feeling considering that they have been with us from the start, in our new homeland.Very nice feeling, actually. What would life be without friends, huh? One of life’s greatest pleasures, for sure.

Back to the theme, green is not a primary colour, it’s created of a mixture of blue & yellow. It’s considered as one of the additions to primary colours. The complement of green is magenta, at least according to RGB colour wheel. That’s a purple colour corresponding to an equal mix of red & blue light. On the other hand, based on traditional colour theory, the complementary colour to green is considered to be red. The word green is closely related to the old english verb growan which means to grow. It’s used to describe plants or the ocean. It can also describe someone who is inexperienced, jealous or sick.

In USA, green is a slang word for money, among other things. Several everyday expressions have been developed from these meanings, such as “green around the gills”, a phrase used to describe a person who looks ill. In some cultures, this colour symbolizes hope & growth, while in others, it’s associated with death, sickness, envy & even the devil. Green is also associated with regeneration, fertility & rebirth for its connections to nature. Recent political groups in Europe & the West have taken on the color as a symbol of environmental protection & social justice…& consider themselves part of the Green movement. This has led to similar campaigns in advertising, as companies have sold green or environmentally friendly products. (look up the word green in Wikipidea, where you can read more about colours).
