Gingerbread

Ginger bread baking, a strong tradition in Sweden – no Christmas without gingerbread, believe me.

It’s the preparations, it’s the smells, it’s moments with mulled & gingerbread, it’s the atmosphere – the whole feeling. And gingerbread houses, decorations & the family getting together in the evenings with the winter darkness outside.

Daily inspiration, Advent calendar

Do you belong to those who likes to be creative, when it’s getting close to the festive season? It’s nice to try out simple things that can be done an evening together with the family. This is a cute idea. Especially when you sweetens the time to find suitable small gifts that can fit into each date, for each day until Christmas. I particularly like the chimney with the smoke!

Beach vacation

It’s that time of year when I would like to go away, get a change of scenery & simply rest. Ideally, I’d like to get off to a desolate place without a lot of activities, people & historical attractions. It’s contrary to what I usually like. I do actually enjoy the rush of big cities & colorful street life with congestion & noise. You can experience & feel the pulse at close range & still remain anonymous – in the middle of the crowd. It’s quite appealing & cozy (If cozy is the right expression of course). But it’s not quite that kind of longing I have. No, it would be very nice to travel somewhere with a distance to all of this. Beaches, sun beds, palm trees, shade, heat & not too many people around. How does that sound?

I guess it’s boring for some & heaven, for others. The fact is that I have all those things around me, within 30 minutes distance. Still, I’d like to go somewhere far away – just for the sake of change. I may sound spoiled, which is not my intention. It’s more about the need of temporary change – new environment, new ideas, start all over or rather rethink things. To do as little as possible, with simple decisions about which book to read or maybe take a nap. You know, relax, eat, sleep! Yep, indeed, that’s what I desire, right now. But now it will not be like that, at least not for the moment. We have relatives who’s here on five weeks visit. There will be no rest at all, the more trips, guided tours & late nights. Certainly nice but …

Happily, we can look forward to a long weekend in Singapore in March. City life instead of the relaxing mood I’m longing for. However, still a change 🙂

Burning desire / 216

Time flies & Christmas is fast approaching, whether I like or not. AND it’s not that I don’t like Christmas, it’s actually my favorite holiday, no doubt. I now live in a climate with summer & sunshine when it’s Christmas. Something I have great trouble to get used to. For my part, it should be freezing cold, with meter-high snow drifts along the roads, frost, ice & unwillingness to get out from the warmth indoors. Then, & only then, can the Christmas be celebrated. I know it can possibly sound strange or even silly to feel that way, but many years of traditions make their mark.

Today we went to town to buy some little things, stroll around & just relax in the city rush & to enjoy  the beautiful sunny weather. Christmas had arrived – all stores & malls were decorated to the top, as well as restaurants & cafes. It’s strange to see all these decorations, all food & hear Christmas songs to then step out to lightly summer dressed people in the heat. It makes the Christmas spirit a little paler, so to speak. Some might say that you are getting the best of both worlds … which of course in a sense is true, by all means. But still …

Let’s get in the mood with some candle light, the ideal attribute for a perfect Christmas.
