Swedish Candy

Pick-and-mix candy is a big thing in Sweden & it’s more than just sweets, it’s almost a minor cultural institution. A well-known phenomenon that is characterised by a commination of sweet & salty flavors.

Swedes have a greater appreciation for salty liquorice & sour candy than people in many other countries. One important part of the tradition “Saturday candy” is the practice of allowing children to eat sweets on Saturdays rather than every day.

This habit became firmly established during the 20th century, turning the selection of a candy mix into a recurring weekend ritual for many families – a traditional custom that is very much alive to this day.
