Mirror mirror on the wall / 28

Hej friends,

It’s mirrors everywhere right now & that’s not because I want to look at my self…they just seem to pop up in front of me. I’ll take it as a sign & make a post about mirrors. They are great to use anywhere in the home, both for the airy sense of space as well as decorative piece. A hallway without a mirror isn’t possible, same with the bathroom or bedroom…even the Living room too. There’s mirrors in different shapes, sizes, colours & styles & material so it’s easy to find whatever you’re looking for. Sounds a bit like I’m trying to convince you, but I’m just making a point. I love the one I bought recently. It’s a heart-shaped mirror in bright red. My husband gave me an uncomprehending gaze the other day, because I placed the mirror too high up on the wall, in his opinion. Like, what’s the point when can’t use it. It was placed there simply because it was so decorative & fine to look at. So, mirror mirror on the wall…

Isn’t this just beautiful, old mirrors on a brick wall – can’t get better / Pinterest

White hallway with an XL mirror that leans to the wall – magnificent / Residence,

Worn mirrors in three different sizes, in simple unpainted wood / White interiors,

Polished mirrors without frames in various forms / unknown

Mirrors work outdoors, just look at this lovely set up / The decorista,

Stilleben or collage on the shelfs making the wall interesting / Stadshem fastighetsmakleri,

Old fashioned style & a bit romantic in it’s expression / Absolutely beautiful things

Nicely coordinated set up, everything fits well together / Home beautiful,

A cottage dream really, the oval shape, is both a decoration & a window where the outside is reflected / Just be splendid,

Great size on this black & perfect for outdoor, making the area seeming bigger then it is / Pinterest

This mirror is very simple but I really like it. I like the round shape with mirror a bit in to create a frame & the bright red colour / Hus & hem,

Side board along tall with TWO mirrors which is rather unusual, fills up the wall without making it messy or busy / Pinterest,

Take care / Marie

Knock knock, who’s there / 27

Hej there, I’m blogging about doors today, because I find them exciting, beautiful & inviting…opening up to something new & or easy to close when it’s needed. The look, colours, shapes, sizes…I wish sometimes that they could tell about all the people that has passed through. When you think about that, we do have a choice each morning as we walk out the door.. to decide for something that is fun at least once during that day.  If you have that in mind each time you walk out that door, it might be interesting to find out how much that can affect your day, if you managed to break the pattern. You know, running in the same track & not always prioritising what’s really important – to live! We are all alike, more or less…steered by what’s expected of us, what we need & have to do. I MUST, I SHOULD, I HAVE TO vs I WISH, I WANT, I FEEL FOR,

Next time you walk out that door, decide for one tiny thing, something that makes you happy … one tiny, tiny thing. In fact, it doesn’t have to be through your own door. You can only regret things you didn’t do…all the rest is experience. And you, don’t forget to cast a glance at the doors you are passing … there are so many beautiful around,

Wether you like colours or not, this combination is difficult to resist – it warmths your heart / Vicki Horton,

I like the combination with the door & the colour together with the striped black/white door canopy / Pinterest,

A bright yellow colour to make your day / Pinterest,

A beautifully worn red backdoor, perhaps not so usable but more decorative – which is good enough / Google,

Another way to use the door more as a decorative as a stand-alone ornament / Greige interior design,

There is nothing like a black door, elegant, magnificent & impressive / MIX SE,

Well, what can I say, it’s very charming / House & home,

Brightly colourful doors that welcomes visitors & puts a smile on their face / Google,

I like this Italian door collage, it’s so cute / Googles,

Take care / Marie

Vintage / 26

Hej friends, I have visited some shops that sell second-hand & vintage stuff. There are loads of them here in Sydney & many are impressively well-stocked. It’s a pleasure to stroll around, talk with the shop owner & try to imagine the history  behind some of these things. But there are some stores that have ridiculously high prices too. They ride well on the wave, I guess, which means that they charge as much as they can, as long as it lasts. My youngest sone came home with a  two stools. He found them on his way to school. This is unusual in Sweden maybe in parts of Europe too – but here in Australia, people gather their stuff in a pile beside the sidewalk twice a year during a few weeks. The garbage guys will thereafter pass to pick this up, for waste management. This has become pure business for some. They go by in small trucks & sort quickly through that they can make money on. Good on them, it’s good for the environment. Anyway, these high stools in black that he found looks great & it seems like Axel has made this to his thing. This is the third time he comes home with stools & low pallets. I hope he continues because they are gorgeous:) Theres nothing as beautiful as old worn furniture in a modern place. The contrast is so strong & inviting. Some of the newly produced items are so well done that it’s almost impossible to see wether they are old or not.

White sheets fit into both old & new. What makes the whole picture is the embossed plate used as headboard … with rust stains left behind. To not mention the pendant.

The environment itself does the job but the bathtub is the ice on the cake. The wood-lined frame is so nice.

Carefully chosen + carefully placed + an eye for details = great result. Just look at the old stair case / MIX SE,

This is kind of romantic, for some reasons. or maybe nostalgic is the right word,

I guess these items are new ones with the aim of creating the worn out feeling in them. Which I think is nicely done / Greige interior design,

The jug is new produced & I guess the accessories on the table are the same, except the table but what do I know / Hus & hem,

I like thes but cant really guess what the y originally was used to, one as a mirror, the others to hang necklaces maybe,

This is probably the most genuine & authentic. I want to believe it anyway. Just check out the headboard in velvet.

Take care / Marie

Gallery for me / 25

Hej friends, so we are finally on a short vacation together – in Cairns. It’s a beautiful view from the hotel with the harbour in reach & the mountains as a background. We have rented a car & are just about to go to Palm cove, a small town along the sea.

I have had images on my mind lately, I just slipped in to a gallery at the hotel’s shopping street & saw some nice stuff. It got me thinking of pictures & frames. There are so many ways to create something unique, cute, stylidh or whatever might be thing for you. Worn frames or modern ones, with or without motive…it doesn’t matter really. There are some simple rules that are good to start with to get a kind of a whole or some structure … but does not have to be a must. No one can really tell you what to do or how to do  it, as long as you are happy with the result. You’re doing this for your self, aren’t you:) Posters & postcards are common if you don’t prefer authentic art, which I’m not covering really. Photos or whatever works. Form my experience, the most common things here in Sydney are wedding photos, family photos & diploma. What seems to be very popular here & has been for a while, is a lot of thin sheet metal images, old  signs & letters. I guess vintage is appealing with it’s simplicity & worn beauty.

Black floor, few well chosen furniture & concentration on the wall. I have just one word – wow! / Karl Andersson,

An entire wall covered with black frames & black/white photos. An impressive result / Greige interior design,

Stick to a small part of the wall & work with rows in height. This wall has been worked consistently with similar colours & only white frames.

Low storage unit works well together with these frames who are leaning against the wall / Vosges Paris,

Small collage on the wall, striking in it’s simplicity / Hus & hem,

This gallery wall enhances the environment in the room with it’s modernity / Bolaget,
Why not use the corner, very strong impact with the armchair in leather. (nice side table:)

I love the straight lines with black on white, it’s always striking … in my world / Greige interior design,

These are some basic rules that can be good to keep in mind.I

Take care / Marie

Desirable destination / 24

Hej friends, the summer season is nearly over back home in Sweden & the lovely autumn is on the way. With all bright colours & the wonderful smell of the soil. Here in Sydney, it’s spring season & will soon bear off to summer. I am in a holiday mood & even though we are on the way to Cairns for a weeks vacation soon, it’s still exciting to check out places, destinations, hotel – the world is like a treasure box, or chocolate box if you prefer that instead.. I like small personal hotels while my guys are more fond of the big ones, with everything included. Furthermore, they have to have (must) sun beds with white thick mattresses & a big pool. That’s a bit boring really, isn’t it, at least very predictable. Different hotels with varying architecture, small or big, in the city or outside, family owned or a big complex, surroundings, people, food, atmosphere – that’s what makes it exciting. I think that I sometimes like the journey more, going to the airport, check in, wander around, pick out a book & some magazines, watch people, complain that it’s too slow & to long queues – well you get the picture. If i had to chose, I would go to a big busy city, that’s what I prefer really…even if it’s nice to have a relaxing holiday too, from time to time. A few days left  & then it’s Cairns…

This is Marbella town house hotel, White, fresh & beautiful / Elle,

Hotel in Seychelles, looks simple  & that’s the key really / 10 most popular destinations,

Mozambique, straw parasol, wooden benches, palm trees & a beautiful view / 10 most popular destinations,

Mozambique at the pool, nice with the striped cushions, the palm trees & the ocean / 10 most popular destinations,

Mauritius, flowing pool design, palm trees & greenery, white terraces & the pools seems to float out to the ocean / 10 most popular destinations,

Maldives, the sky & the sea seems to melt. Huts floats above water & the white sail boat gives this the finishing touch / 10 most popular destinations,

Maldives, huts in close-up – lovely, isn’t it / 10 most popular destinations,

Kenya, palm trees for some shadow for the sun, sandy with pool & a beautiful ocean waiting / 10 most popular destinations,

Botswana, hotel room with wood on the inside, a white bed & white mosquito net / 10 most popular destinations,

Bomans hotel in Stockholm,

Boundary hotel in London, designed by Terence Conran,
