Piece of work / 164

Hej friends,

I went back to work recently after a long break. It has been pure pleasure to have time for nothing & everything, to be in charge of my own time – no appointments, schedules or any musts. It’s a very inspiring & relaxing way of living. But nothing lasts for ever & reality catches up sooner or later. On the other hand, I’m very grateful for having had the opportunity to take a long break. It’s unusual to be able to forget all demands & requirements which constantly exist in our everyday life…& do what I want to do. Well, I guess my darling have enjoyed it to the fullest too. A clean house to come home to, laundry taken care of…meals ready…to simply just sit down at the dinner table, with welcoming candlelights, without having to think about things that needs to be done. It’s been a blessing for the whole family.

I very much enjoyed my time at home. Something I wouldn’t have believed if someone had told me that some couple of years ago. I’ve learnt to value my time & each precious moment. I’d like to think that this break has helped me to fine tune certain things that was in need of development. I guess that time will tell.

So dear friends, to celebrate a new stage of life, I’ve done a post about work spaces. I’m afraid that some of you might think that these are out of time & out of place. Rightly perhaps, but I guess that this style is always going to be appealing to a number of people. I might need to follow up with a modern version for all fo you who don’t :)

Worn beauty / 156

Hej friends,

I am very much into vintage right now. I guess I’m influenced by all the markets I’ve been visiting with friends & family. I like the atmosphere, the feeling of excitement that creates, all individuals visiting or selling, the smell, the music, the diversity of supply, the sense of the bargain in the air, well, you know…it’s fascinating. I am quite smitten by all the stuff that have their own story, that have been someone’s beloved item, which will now be sold to & go on to new adventures. It’s also exciting that someone else can see the beauty in things that others has got tired of. It’s like a public festival & who on earth would say no to such an exciting experience. Well, I guess there are some since we all are different with different needs, expectations & interests. Fair enough. Let’s just rejoice over diversity & everyones freedom to choose. So, if you are interested in worn beauty, please scroll further…

School posters / 135

Hej friends,

I was looking for a certain thing in my closet & happened to find some old photos in an envelope. Most of them was from early school years…imagine my surprise, I had completely forgotten them. I sank down on the floor & got seated with these photos & memories of a bygone era (it was a veeeeeery long time since my early school years). It struck me that I had forgotten of the almost obligatory illustrations which sat up on the walls in principle in every classroom. Those posters was around through primary school up to at the end of high school. Tricky to be able to forget things that I’ve seen every day during all these years. Maybe because it reminds of pure pain since we had to mention every flower, plant & leaf with name in latin. That has been very helpful in my professional life, indeed:) Anyway, today, so many years later, I find them rather appealing, it is, after all, memories from my childhood. It feels so simple & innocent with the teaching of that time, knowledge that would partly  be punched in through repetition.

I took a look on the web & found quite a lot of images with these posters. Here’s to all my teachers, who coached, helped, supported & teached me loads of things that contributed to my success in my professional life.

Carl von Linné (1707–1778) / Uppsala universitet

(Linnaeus’ way of classifying Nature was so good that this system, called Systema naturae, came to be used all over the world. He simplified the scientific nomenclature of plants & animals. This system, with two Latin names for every species of animal or plant, is still used the world over & simplifies communication between scientists, gardeners, birdwatchers etc).

Collectors / 132

Hej friends,

Collectors of all varietys would thrive excellently in Sydney.  It’s a great place to be if you like second hand stuff. Just on my street there’s a few shops with vintage clothes, furniture & decorative stuff. Regular garage sales can be found in the neighborhood & schoolyard over the weekends. It’s of course similar in most of the suburbs. Flea markets are a huge business & it’s countless number of ongoing every weekend. Thus, a great place for collectors, treasure hunters as well as bargain hunters. Not everything is second hand of course but what strikes me is how skilled people are, making use of stuff & things … instead of simply throwing away. Evident that this business exists back in Sweden too but definitely not on this scale … & perhaps more like a cool thing to enjoy in spare time & not always as a lifestyle.

I’ve been to markets in the past & ended up with things like small decorative boxes, frames, candle holders & even an armchair … that my husband threw out just in time for the Easter fire (An annual traditon back in Sweden). Nowadays, I see myself shopping clothes, bags, shoes & jewelry at different markets … at first, to my darlings dismay. At least until he found a pair of almost new Raybans, to a great price. It doesn’t require that much sometimes to make you change your mind about things:)

Whatever you collect, simply continue as long as it makes you happy.

Brown(ies) / 125

Hej my friends,

Brown as in brownies, well no not really - no connection there, not more than the color at least. I’ve been inspired after visiting museum & flea markets. I really enjoy the worn, old & faded brown color. As I’m a “colourless” person, I tend to use brown rather often, mostly with white but also with black & beige, of course. I had a big cleaning day yesterday now that all on visit have left. I changed throws & cushions in our sofas to beige, brown & white.  Our sofas has currently steel grey sofa covers so it looked rather nice together with the white rug. I like it to be clean & nice throughout, so when the common areas were done, I prepared specific cleaning stuff to my youngest – who almost went through the roof with anger when he came home from school. However, he had no chance of escape, so after some food in his belly, he put on music on highest volyme & set out to do this mission impossible & was finally finished with a perfect room … clean, nice & tidy…after inspection. It seemed like he was very pleased with himself afterwards.

Since I am on the subject brown (ies) I’ll have to mention that it was quite a few, real, brownies that went down with a glass of milk after his hard work.
