Hej friends,
This past weekend was the first Sunday of Advent & I’m celebrating it by a post about candles. At home in Sweden, it’s a tremendously beautiful season with candles & candle holders in every window. There’s electric candlesticks – specific Sunday of Advent candle in every home …enough for a whole life time. Christmas is approaching with long strides & brings the need to light candles to light up the dark season. Friends of order will be saying that it’s very light now that the Spring is here in Sydney & about to pass on to summer season. Which is true but it’s still very dark in the evenings. Candles is not merely about a lighter everyday life, it’s also about atmosphere, feeling the smell of candle wax flowing, warmth from the lights & the range of shadow created by the flames. It’s actually deep underlying needs, to feel safe at a fire. This is demonstrated by researchers in various studies & based on the time at the the camp-fires from early times.
Anyway, I’m a big lover of candles & my darling usually say that It looks as in a church in the evenings at home. But when I don’t light up some candles here & there, he is quickly there doing it instead. The smell of candle wax’s almost addictive. Given our consumption at home, it’s like candles in the wind – they sizzles away:)
