Woodenhead / 215

I figured I would stick to the theme of wood again today. However, more generally & more mixed, not just black & wood together. Wood is just so nice & appealing. Besides, I’m in the mood … right now wood is up to date … in my world. In our new house where we recently moved in, the whole kitchen area is in birch. We have painted the walls in white. It flows together into a bright & pleasant whole with furniture in birch & white. The house is about 100 years old but has an extension made in the present. The old part has darker wood & details from that particular time. I’m glad it has been preserved. When you go through the small house, it feels as if you’re going through two different eras. It’s nice to think about those who have lived here before - the difference from then to now.

I wonder what they would have thought, about the developments & the improvements that has happened since then. Not to mention the neighbourhood that  has gone from a few streets into a giant suburb. Well, it is as it is … I’ll keep my thoughts to myself instead. Let’s go back to the theme of wood. Here we go…

Little less colours / 128

Hej dear friends,

Less colours is very boring for some but very appealing for others. You know by now that I favour pale colours. Black, white, grey, beige & brown. At least for clothing but honestly, it’s the same at home except for red, green, yellow, which then alone, is reserved for accessories & textiles. A fact which my youngest son don’t appreciate particularly well. He always argues against this “rule” as he calls it. He claims that his whole life has been colourless, which certainly not is consistent with the truth…not totally, at least. We have always decorated his room in the manner he desired, with colours that he preferred. Right now, he has metal, birch, white & bright green … not to mention his posters in all sorts of colors.

We tweaked a little throughout the week together, without any fight or constant questioning. Totally amazing, who could have believed that it ever would happen. In addition, we took down all the pictures & re-hanged them, so they went in a straight line, but the number increased significantly before we finished it all, strangely enough. No doubts that this room has colour enough for all teens in the world. No matter wath, the major thing is that my precious is happy & fully satiesfied with the outcome. The best thing is that it seems that he is keen on keeping it tidy & nice around him now. Hallelujah:)

But guys, for the rest of us, it’s now an entry about a little less colours. White, beige, wood, rattan…

MERRY CHRISTMAS / 104

Hej friends,

Christmas eve – here we come…and as usual, just as in previous years, my darling gets desperate & thinks that we should have bought a few more gifts for the guys. This is the same every Christmas, he starts to pick through the pile of packages, mumbles & looks stressed out with wild eyes. He becomes desperate & thinks we should have been more generous & bought some more presents. There’s nothing I can do or say when he has this diseace. It’s just letting him continue until the attack passes. He will be back in an hour or so…while the rest of us sit down in a minute for a common Christmas breakfast.

There are other ways to create the Christmas spirit with trees even though they’re not real. It’s not only nice & personal, but also saves on natural resources. Here are some suggestions on how you can create your own solution. If you already have your tree ready to go for Christmas then just to sit back & enjoy these ideas. Christmas trees at your service – go ahead.

Woodstock / 66

Hej friends, Wood & timber goes way back & is strong & firmly anchored since my childhood. There are few things which can compete with this material & the feeling of properly crafted furniture toys, houses & cottages etc. It has worked in the past, it works now & will hopefully continue so in the future. I’m particularly fond of birch, oak & pine. Natural materials that’s just amazing. Wood works well with any material. Same with colours, even if some fit better than others. My first home had pine furniture combined with red & white colours. As I moved to the next place, I had birch & bright yellow with black. Over the years, wood has persisted, but the colours changed, or rather faded. There’s now basic colours in my place, such as white, black, beige, grey & occasional details in red or green. I must say that I find any timber furniture great with white…so I have researched some images in this particular colour. By the way, it’s hot already outside, I’m up earlier then usual, woke up one of my precious – we’re going to look for a birthday present to his girlfriend today. But first, breakfast with a friend in a gorgeous place – in the sun. Enjoy the world of wood & timber. White walls, white sheets & a low back wall that serves as headboard – creating a calm & bright atmosphere / Design shimmer A white room with coffee table & shelves on the wall in pure untreated wood. Great looking / First home It’s the other way around here – white painted wood furniture & few untreated details / House & Home White wood floors, unpainted concrete walls & untreated dining table. Can it really be more beautiful / Design shimmer White environment with wooden flooring, table & cabinet combined  with white-goods in aluminium. Nice contrast / Just be splendid Not really a proper image to this theme but nevertheless beautiful because of similar colours. Although the stool is untreated wood & the lamp stands painted white / My white room Here we go again – white room with just a few details in a beautiful worn & frayed wood / My white room Deliberately worn & rough surface of wood with white fabrics that create awelcoming place / Total blur White painted hallway with light floor & a few old wooden boxes that serves as shoe racks – irresistible in a simple manner / Slumber designs White walls, black feature wall, white details & birch furniture – very Scandinavian look / IKEA My little favourite – in its simplicity, it is fresh, beautiful & soothing / My white room Take care / Marie The majority of the photos on my blog are not mine. Knock on wood

I grew up with pine in every room…bedroom, living room, hallway but especially the kitchen. My first kitchen had pine shutters. Timber is very common in Sweden, both houses & furniture as well as toys. It’s a wonderful material & very alive. I often try to sneak a view of houses while strolling around in the neighbourhood. It’s rather different architecture where wooden houses are unusual. Natural material is hard to beat. Don’t you think?

Timber, worn, old, charming, vibrant,

Worn, handsome, probably newly manufactured,

An entire room with wooden floors, tables, chairs … to reflect past & present,

Beautiful, a cabinet with a history of design based on tradition & material, rural,

Makes my heart throb, childhood, grandparents, cottage, vacation,

Maybe not quite as practical with wooden floors in the bathrooms, but beautiful it is,

Curved wood in the chair, wooden floors, including wood patterns in the pillow,

Timber is beautiful as it is, of course, but it is nevertheless great when it is painted in white.

Or why not in black, white wood floors to make the room exciting,

Take care / Marie
