Lengthwise & crosswise

Stripes are something that never goes out of style – according to me, that is. It’s the simplicity, I guess … whether it’s garments, home textiles, interiors or outdoors. It’s neat, simply. Stripes helps you to create a lot of various expressions. Navy theme or perhaps more graphically in base colors, or  in mix with other patterns for greater effect. Narrow stripes combined with broad stripes looks great together. Also stripes combined with floral pattern … without it becoming too cute. I honestly don’t know how many sweaters, t-shirts, shorts, etc that I have with stripes – nor curtains or fabrics for that matter. I have certainly cleared out a lot since the last move – so it’s not as bad as it was before, but still. I think the chances are promising that there will be some purchases in the future, because everyone knows that the force of habit is great. But what does it matter, I like stripes lengthwise & crosswise.

Mix it / 188

Hej my friends,

I thought I’d give it try to blog about colours / pattern. At least make an attempt, since I’m fairly cautious in using colour myself, especially in combination with too much pattern. I’m rather predictable, a very beige person so to speak. It’s not that I don’t appreciate it. It just feels as it’s too much when those combinations are mixed. It’s always nice & exciting when I see colours & patterns combined somewhere else, whether it’s interior or fashion. I’ve more or less unconsciously, opted out those that are too colourful with too much pattern. If you look really closely below, you’ll see that most images have white walls, to avoid it becoming too cluttered. It’s not that patterned really but enough patterns for my part.

Well, I’m no more exciting than that, actually. But on the other hand, this it’s not about me but about different patterns & mixtures, which I hope will fall to your taste. And possibly inspire you to some more patterns in your everyday life…on your terms :)

Cushion decor / 186

Dear friends,

I mentioned cushions as one of my passions in one of my earlier posts, which now inspired me to do some more blogging with this in mind. So here we go again … I can never get enough of textiles, neither cushions, fabrics, colours & patterns. To be honest, I actually prefer pillow cases because they don’t take any space to store & are easy to wash & iron … instead of whole cushions that have  to fit somewhere, when not in use. It’s more common here in Australia, with cushions, than the use of inner cushions with removable covers in different designs.

I usually try to find pieces of fabrics to sew instead. So I can get the design & colour I like. Moreover, it’s easy to change the expression after season or pleasure. You just have to change covers – it’s done in a flash, takes no time. As for sewing, well, well, sewing is perhaps too much to say, submitting those jobs to professionals, is more right. It was a long time ago now, I took the time to sew. Nevertheless, an interior does not feel finished until cushions are in place. Icing on the cake, so to speak :)

Rose garden / 174

Hej friends,

Today, I devote the blog to a new acquaintance who loves patterns. Not just any pattern, but patterns of roses, preferably small-scale ones, I believe. I happened to see her Iphone case, which was studded with small roses in red  & pink. We started talking about roses of all kinds that’s been her passion since childhood. I’m moderately interested & prefer to combine roses with stripes, to make it less romantic or rather, less cute. I like those patterns because I seem to fall for something regarding these roses, especially on porcelain, for some reason…as long as it doesn’t get too pretty. It’s something with roses that attract, at least in some situations & environments. Sometimes there is too much & sometimes it’s just perfect. Most things become nice as long as you add into your personal taste & creates the feeling you are looking for, that makes you happy. It’s as easy as it sounds, really.

You will notice that I have selected photos that are not very colourful. It becomes too much sometimes & right now it felt just right with these images.

Pattern pleasure / 124

Hej dear friends,

I hope the week has been a pleasure so far & that the weekend becomes something to look forward to. Our weekends are full of activites in terms of doing nothing special. It’s fully up, just to agree on what to do & in what order. The majority of us in the family are not particularly interested in sports, well to be honest, it’s only my darling who’ sincerely interested, but he exercises it largely in front of the tv … when there’s not anything else the rest of us want to see. When I think about it, it doesen’t sound as a very nice thing to do. However purely technical, it’s about survival, otherwise we would have to endure sports a major part of our waking time. It’s better to have three happy in the family & one slightly less happy, dont you think?

It’s been nice weather all weekend with a few brief showers. Our guys were busy on Sunday with work & music practice with the band. We got out early on our bikes & drove around 15 miles. It was the best weather ever to cruise through Sydney out to the northern beaches. With the heat, the scents comes closer & you feel them more or less where you pass. It’s all from coffee, thai, pizza, bread, pastries, to soil, plants & flowers. It makes me craving coffee rather quickly which irritates my husband but I do know that he deep down, is just as eager. Stopping along a coffee shop in the sunlight & the heat, who can say no to that. Furthermore, the’re always pleasant smaller shops around that are fun to visit. And that, believe it or not, is one of the things my husband likes … lucky in that way, right?
