Same same but different / 38

Hej friends, It’s Friday & I’m soon heading out on my Vespa to meet a lovely friend for lunch.  I’m just going to post today’s theme on the blog & are sitting in my room with the doors opened out to the balcony, listening to the cars from a distance, flights that flies over our area on the way to the airport, neighbours sound in the garden, birds twittering. It’s very nice, safe & soothing. It’s a little scary sometimes to become so accustomed to all the daily that you stop to see or enjoy it. Too busy to live that we miss the essential. It’s easy to make changes, whether in life, at home or elsewhere – it’s just to make up your mind. I’m going to help with the home, the easiest thing certainly but it’s always a start. It’s the same room & set up with furniture but different textiles & accessories. Not overly inspiring, it’s more the concept of how simple it is to make changes. Here you go,

Light grey rug, dark grey quilt cover, white curtains & throw plus two big cushions in black & white,

Wine red rug, dark blue quilt cover & curtains, accessories in red,

White base with the quilt cover as the only colour in dark blue,

Light patterned rug, red quilt cover, plum-coloured curtains,

Striped rug in brown shades, chocolate colour on quilt cover & accessories,

Everything white except the big framed picture,

Small wide striped rug, quilt cover that takes up the similar green colour, light curtains,

Long striped rug, coloured quilt cover in orange-red, orange curtains & black/orange/red accent colours. All images / IKEA,

Take care / Marie

The sky is the limit / 36

Hej friends, time simply flies away & I don’t seem to be able to keep up. I don’t like that feeling, I feel cheated somehow.

Anyway, I recently read that Australians have largest living space in the world with an average of 200 sq.m. It is several on my street that are currently expanding & loads through the suburbs doing the same. You can not tell how large the houses really are by just looking at them from the front. The facade looks narrow but the house elongates, once you get inside. They are extended from behind & seems to never end. It’s great with the outdoor areas that is given as much space. You tend to spend a lot of time outdoor … socialising, swimming, playing, barbecuing. No matter how big you live, the place never seems enough, for all the things you need (or think you need). But there are smart & fun ways to furnish to create space or simply make it exciting,

Such a nice room – white & bright with the ladder in the middle to separate the beds. Clever with shared bedside table between & the window, same with storage under the beds / House of turquoise,

Very well use of the space, both sq. & cubic, using all the space in the room yet it looks like there’s plenty of room plus floor space / IKEA.

Here is the ceiling height used for the beds to create space on the sides for both storage & a small work place. Their sleeping becomes as in a single room, nice again with under-bed storage / Small rooms,

Important with the number of beds obviously but yet done in a functional & attractive style / VT vonen,

This must be a dream for a family with children. Cupboards, wardrobes, shelfs & boxes together with the bed, play & desk area – use of every inch / IKEA,

AND this must be a dream for a teenager, sofa, coffee table, bed, wardrobes, additional stools – fresh & bright / IKEA,

Built-in & personal, nice with drapery that softens the room / Paonote room 269,

Nice & bright even though every inch is used, leaving the floor space clean / Hus & Hem,

Personality, style, design – for individual or specific target group. Easy to change or adjust after taste / Family living,

All in one place & exciting for the small user / Seventy-tree,

Take care / Marie

Do it yourself / 13

Hello friends,

I can’t claim that I’m the tweaking & fixing type, I don’t have the patience. Despite my background as a shop window & store display decorator. The entire day was filled with craft work - fix, build, paint, screw & loads of small carpentry tasks. I enjoyed it, it was exciting to be handy. If you look around nowadays you will find a lot of workshops, group activities & individual hobby courses. Magazines, TV programs & theme  papers & books are full of reports about this topic. It’s great … we have lost a lot of craft expertise. Knitting & crocheting have made many followers. The joy is great when you can showcase your work & tell people that you have made it yourself. Right?

Although anyone can buy stuff like yours, it’s crucial how to combine it together for your own personal taste. I’ve checked out some clever ideas which might encourages change. Hope you like them!

An ordinary glass jar with a pincushion attached, really cute with patterned fabrics.

A simple board with holes drilled & rope to hang it in the & presto, you get a side table.

This solution perhaps is a bit harder to fix, but redoing or constructing a new building, offers the chance to delight the kids … adults too for that matter.

A straight nice shelf that easily can change by painting the back with a different colour.

Looks easy – scoop out a few apples & press down tea lights.

Simple, neat & stylish but to get to the bottom right may not be so easy.

A few old books to get to the correct vintage style right & a lamp stand with comfortable enough height. So handsome!

Clever – past meets the present.

Sweet & surprising,

A large globe that are cut in half & boom, you have two wonderful pendants,

To create something of your own & unique is always fun,

Take care / Marie

Food for thoughts / 10

Hej friends,

Food, enjoyable & something I desire to learn. It’s not that I can’t cook at all, but I’m relatively poor at it. Several of my  siblings are cooks by profession, I should have been able to pick up some knowledge from them. It seems that my son Karl Anton has a talent for it. I have loads of inspiring food books but it’s with them as it is with my interior design books, nice to browse through but no energy to take hold of these projects. I watched Hells kitchen & other similar TV-shows but I ended up analysing things from the human perspective. It was more exciting & interesting with behaviours & attitudes as well as expectations – how they dealt with difficulties. By observing others, you get to know yourself, I think. Anyway, when I began to research food images, I discovered that I, quite unconsciously,  choose pictures of deserts. Now, why would I do that:) Images from pinterest.com / Pavlova receipt from donnahay.com.au

Pavlova / 150 ml egg white (approx. 4 eggs) 1 cup (220g) caster (superfine) sugar, 2 tablespoons corn flour (cornstarch), sifted 2 teaspoons white vinegar, 1 cup (250 ml) single (pouring) cream, ½ cup passion fruit pulp (approx. 4 passion fruit) 250g strawberries, hulled & halved. Preheat oven to 150°C (300°F). Place the egg white in the bowl of an electric mixer & whisk until stiff peaks form. Gradually add the sugar, whisking well, until the mixture is stiff & glossy.  Add the corn flour & vinegar & whisk until just combined. Shape the mixture into an 18 cm round on a baking tray lined with non-stick baking paper. Reduce oven to 120°C (250°F) & bake for 1h & 20 minutes. Turn the oven off & allow the Pavlova to cool completely in the oven. Whisk the cream until soft peaks form. Spread over the Pavlova, top with passion fruit & strawberries & serve immediately. Serves 8–10 pieces. You’ll know when the meringue is stiff & glossy because the mixture will have tripled in volume & stands up when the beaters are lifted. The low heat puffs up the meringue while the long cooking time dries it out to give you a lovely crisp shell. Store your Pavlova, undressed, in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
