Christmas cosiness / 228

Christmas collection form the swedish We have some Christmas decorations at home, mostly in the kitchen & dining area. We are doing what we can to get into a christmassy spirit, despite the heat outside. It’s nice in the evening, when the darkness slowly falls. It gets pitch black outside which makes you feel switched off from the outside world. With the christmas tree, candle lights & the smell of gingerbread in the air, it feels as if Santa will knock on the door, anytime. I can’t  say that we have stressed with any preparation at all. We have been busy with life, that rolls on, regardless. Jobs, schools, meetings & other everyday activities. Plus to bring order at home, after the move…nothing much really –  some structure & things in order. So tonight, we have no plans, just a quiet evening with our boys - on the couch with tea, mulled wine, gingerbread, saffron buns & a Christmas movie … Christmas cosiness, simply.

Something red / 103

Hej friends,

I’m for diversity, personal taste, free thinking & different ways of doing things…rather open minded really. But despite that, I often fall back on what I’m used to, how it has been in the past & what I’m familiar with. It’s some truth in the phrase, kill your darlings…what can I say, I just love red for Christmas. For me, Christmas is red, bright red, lacquer red, Santa Claus red…so I’m going with that now, this Christmas also. One don’t have to change everything in this world, really.

I’ve been the one to dress the Christmas tree every year but the past few years, I haven’t felt it particularly motivating … I can’t for anything in the world get it to feel right with the summer season at the same time as Christmas celebrations. I’ve simply stopped to bother about the tree & this has got my guys to almost go through the roof. If they wanted a Christmas tree, they could fix it themselfs then. I imagined that would end the discussion but oh no, they went to look for all our Christmas boxes, buy a tree & find some nice electric light etc.

I left the house for some hours, I could as well do some Christmas shopping meanwhile. Once I was back at home, I had repressed the thought of what they was up to. Lo & behold, they had succeeded remarkably well. It was so nice & tidy. Christmas decorations, Santa’s, candle holders, stars, angels & other decorations were in place. The floors were wiped, the coffee was on, mulled wine was warmed & gingerbread were ready on a tray, it really smelled Christmas in the whole house. (I adjusted a little here & there when no one was watching) but it was really surprisingly good. They  had even decorated the tree with the last final touch for me to do…AND they had bought a plastic one!!!

I’ve mixed some images in today’s post but it’s a single theme – Christmas, of course. Take a look, there’s something red in each one…more or less.

White Christmas / 101

Hej guys,

Since this week leads up to Christmas & I thought I should post a bunch of nice white Christmas images – mainly to connect or relate to the snow, the cold & the ice back home. It’s cold here in Sydney, at least according to all friends & as I understand, this is the worst summer so far in 52 years. I find the weather quiet warm, kind of like a warm Swedish summer. But I have some  sympathy for the feelings that this weather creates, especially when people are used to something totally different. But finding the weather warm, as it actually is, makes it rather difficult to achieve any kind of Christmas spirit. I’m used to very cold weather at this time of year…meter-high snow drifts & steamy breath. But I guess it’s the opposite if an Aussie friend would celebrate Christmas in the cold  with Swedish traditions. Nice for sure but I’m sure they would miss the sun, heat & the beach.

So now, let’s forget about the weather & look forward to the beautiful Christmas no matter where we live. With mulled wine & gingerbread together with these images – it starts to feel like a white Christmas.
