Nook / 221

Up early today, awakened by my youngest who needed to fill up his car – so I went with him to the gas station, around five minutes drive & walked back – took 25 minutes in the early sun. It’s refreshing to see the neighbourhood wake up & start the day. For once, I felt refreshed & energetic. I managed to fix some stuff at home, in the early morning. It has been a lot of work lately – late evenings, early mornings, a whole lot to fix on the home front plus the heat that takes some energy too. Now it’s fine weather & around 27 degrees – perfect.

Whatever weather, inside or outside, it’s always nice with small nooks where you can retreat, read, take the time to think over things, listen to music or just relax. Moreover, it’s cozy & inviting plus tat it’s a perfect place for short naps too. That’s one of the nicest things & a luxury too, to be able to take a nap during the day. Also, it’s a perfect place in Christmas time – to curl up in peace & quiet – that’s cozy indeed. Sometimes when our boys were small & still were in need of an afternoon-nap, we ended up in arguments about whose turn it was to get them to sleep. We finally agreed to take turns, for family peace, if nothing else. Those were nice times, indeed.

Black & wood / 214

Wood used & worn down until it fades or new timber that has its color & strength left … all kinds of wood are a luxurious feel. A natural materials that live & breathe with the house & the individuals who use it. It is neat with all types of materials & colors … regardless what applies right now. Timeless, simply!  I’m very fond of wood & I use materials that I prefer, of course. It may well be pine, birch or oak, in the first place. Ash might be nice at times, but a little too lifeless for my taste. But as usual, it’s vital how to put it all together. The mix of furniture with flooring materials, colors, fabrics & lighting … in combination with the room size. Even the way the light falls from the windows. It may look a bit pale, yellow or rather, without natural freshness.

I’m right now very fond of darker wood combined with black. A feeling of the fifties without that specific style. Well, with that style too actually, since it’s very appealing. I’m more after the contemporary style with soul…not styled or just copied right off but well thought out & detailed. Take a look at the first two images below. That’s the feeling I mean. But by all means, different woods combined with black details – it always works.

Small space / 211

Small space – relevant in many places but perhaps not in Australia. I believe that AU are amongst the countries, if not the top, when it comes to having the biggest living space in m² in the world. And why not, it’s a big continent, right? If there has to be a reason, that is! It’s rather difficult to furnish large surfaces, however, it requires smart solutions to decorate small spaces. Both functionally & appealing but also spacious, despite the limited space. It’s very much about how you want to live. What you want to be visible vs what you want to store. What you need daily vs what you use infrequently. But also what colors you use, and what combinations. Some colours reduce spaces while others can enhance & create a sense of light & airy areas. The same with textile choices in terms of colours & patterns but also structure & materials.

Now, it was not my intention to go into details … I try to always keep things more general & trust that the images does the work. Let’s hope they do that this time :)

Sunshine / 200

Hej friends,

It’s been a special day today because my darling has been able to walk, without any help the entire day in the city. We’ve been strolling around after a nice breakfast in the sun. Coffee  here & some shopping there  & then back home for some rest. He’s been through a hip replacement recently so I’m amazed that you can heal so fast … amazed & grateful too of course.

I’ve now been blogging over a year & this becomes my 200th post. It’s remarkable that I’ve continued blogging, considering the time required. It takes some time to reflect on & collect images for different themes. Many photos recur in different media again & again. In addition, many blogs are filled by similarly images, which is not surprising given that a lot of these deals with current issues, trends & tendencies. At the same time, I should probably mention that it’s a bit of a therapy, to browse the web. You enter a different world or rather worlds, of characteristics, news, diversity & overwhelming mix of old & new.

I never thought I would take the step to use technology, because of the internal resistance. I’m not technical at all. But if you’re not into it, then you are outside. I have no problem to remain ignorant of certain things sometimes. However, in this case, it probably does more harm than good. So I’m trying to keep myself up to date with social media, blogs etc. I’m even downloading books & music via iTunes … AND I’m reading in bed…even though Ipads are hard & books are soft. It’s never too late, I guess.

Velvet / 196

Hej there,

With a move that takes place within a few weeks, I’ve been busy with all the practical details that  has to be organised. But working full time, commuting, family life & so on is important as well. Meanwhile, I’m thinking a bit on the sofas we have & sofa models overall. I’m thinking more of materials than of sofas actually. To me, the sofa is maybe the most important piece of furniture in the living room. Definitely as an important carrier of function, comfort & eye candy. Even as a seasonal piece, considering all removable covers that’s so easy to switch … in different colours, design & quality. The trick is to choose the model you like, the style of the sofa, so to speak. It’s easier said than done. A used & worn sofa in velvet with the right gloss & model just feels so right. I do not know why … it’s something with the softness & surface, I believe.

There will probably be further sofa thoughts & no action, for the moment. We don´t have time enough right now. AND the others in the family would absolutely want to be part of it to be able to influence. It may take a “little ” while.
