Neatly packed

I happen to like straight, flat-shaped & box-like houses … maybe not buildings but houses. I now live in a house that is quite in contrast to this straight architecture. But equal happy anyway. I like the simple shape that showcases exactly what you see without fuss. Angles & crannies are not my melody even if I do appreciate it because of its intermittency & charm…when it’s old, used & lived in. But, it is like it is with preferences. And still, with a straight shape, it can look so different & express so much, that it’s hard to believe.

Anyway, I thought I’ll do a post about my love for nicely packaged houses & show you some nice finds. Who knows, if you’re not into this type of architecture  - you might discover something that may change your mind.

Mini houses / 209

My fascination for house takes different forms. They may be real or mini size, metal, fabric, pastries or whatever might be. I like the kind of house that often appears in fairy tales. Such as the gingerbread house in Hansel & Gretel. Actually I am childishly fond in that sort of house type. I guess most of us has built huts since childhood & my interest took probably shape from that time. It’s not a big hobby or obsession really. I don’t collect & visit specific locations to maintain an interest. It’s more about childish house with sloping roof that appeals to me. Like some of the pictures below. I have actually a predilection to castles too but that’s another story.

I think my interest started with all the storybooks I borrowed from the library, at a young age. I also spent a lot of time there, hours per day, to read, browse & ponder of both the characters & the odd places where they usually lived … I thought they were charming & cozy. Perhaps to some extent, it was about safety too, because those which were kind & friendly, could always stay indoors as protection for the wolf or the witch or otherwise dangerous beings :)

Concrete / 189

Hej friends all over the world,

My blog host is improving the site continuously & it’s now easy to see where my followers are in the world. It’s incredibly interesting & exciting. I dont seem to get it into my head that I can sit in my corner of the world & reach other like-minded individuals around the earth, with just a click on the keyboard. It’s worth thinking about, how things evolve … & how we often take it for granted. Either way, it’s fun &  really overwhelming to know that over 43,000 visitors has “knocked on the door” during this year that I have been blogging. I would like to thank you – each & everyone, for your confidence & for all encouraging comments. BIG thanks :)

Today’s post is about something that I have developed a crush for (lately). Concrete, a construction material composed of coarse gravel, crushed rocks or sand plus cement & water. It’s a material which is energy efficient & have a long life. Furthermore, it only gets beautiful over the years. My first love in (untreated) concrete was a 40 cm high lantern with glass around all sides. Hard & brittle materials, which together became wonderfully appealing, with a lit candle inside. I bought it around 15 years ago (time flies) & have it still in my collection. Some things do survive over time…

Rooftops / 163

Hej dear friends,

Rooftops have always been exciting, from the time when I as a child ran around with the big kids at building / construction sites where you really could not be … & were so exciting precisely for that reason. To the rooftops you get to see from hotel rooms … when I dared to look out from the windows from that hight. I loved the movie Aristocats where the characters ran around on the rooftops in Paris. And something exciting always happened. I think I watched it hundred times with my boys. It’s not only the view that is exciting or the height, but also the fact that you are on a roof, at the top, where nobody can see you but you can see everything.

It’s exciting, fun & uplifting, but also romantic, isn’t it ?

House craving / 148

Hej friends,

I don’t know but I think I mentioned earlier that we are renting & will eventually start to look for a house. I’d like to be able to paint, make changes, create our own space based on our needs. I think my darling is even more eager than I am. The thing is that we don’t have the same perspective of the size, area, style etc. I’d like a smaller house while he believes that a bigger house is much better. But on the other hand , we’ve gone through some house purchases so I’m not worried, things usually work out for the best in the end. One house was bought unseen because we were so tired of house tours, queues, estate agents & to drive back & forth, through different areas with our boys during a long time. That house actually became one of our best buys, after that we had renovated nearly everything before we moved to a new city again. You have to have luck sometimes:)

Anyway, it will take some time before we can start with the house hunt & until then, I’ll keep an eye on houses & areas purely for fun. There’s probably nothing more enjoyable than to look at various houses with various style in different areas. It becomes so personally in an odd way, much like observing without being observed – if you see what I mean. Below you’ll find some images of, maybe not so very common, buildings but interesting or appealing in different ways. I wouldn’t dare to let you know which one of these below I prefer…
