Light grey shades

We are just in the phase to renovate our shed in the garden. It’s around 15-17 square meter & has been used for various storage needs. It’s a perfect little house to furnish as a guest house. And so it will be used too – with relatives that will arrive within four weeks & stay for four weeks. It’s just outside the veranda, in the corner of the garden with all the lovely trees & bushes around. It’s been made in country style which fits well with the rest of the house. We will retain the outside in same style so most of the work will be to get the interior nice, comfortable & functional. All walls white, I guess we will choose white floor also. White tiles for the shower area & for the sink too.

It will not be much color except textiles, rugs & accessories. The usual, so to speak. Colour is always nice in many ways but ” colourless” works well too. To visualize that, I chose to do a post with images in grey – shades of light grey.

Lengthwise & crosswise

Stripes are something that never goes out of style – according to me, that is. It’s the simplicity, I guess … whether it’s garments, home textiles, interiors or outdoors. It’s neat, simply. Stripes helps you to create a lot of various expressions. Navy theme or perhaps more graphically in base colors, or  in mix with other patterns for greater effect. Narrow stripes combined with broad stripes looks great together. Also stripes combined with floral pattern … without it becoming too cute. I honestly don’t know how many sweaters, t-shirts, shorts, etc that I have with stripes – nor curtains or fabrics for that matter. I have certainly cleared out a lot since the last move – so it’s not as bad as it was before, but still. I think the chances are promising that there will be some purchases in the future, because everyone knows that the force of habit is great. But what does it matter, I like stripes lengthwise & crosswise.

It takes two / 222

Yesterday, I arrived home late after a long day at work, around half past ten p.m & I was too tired for anything other than something simple to eat & then just fall into bed. Now it was not quite as I had imagened. There were boxes everywhere, Christmas music sounded & the Christmas tree was half assembled & looked more like a straw man. My youngest walked around with his guitar & sang something totally different than the christmas music that was on & my oldest son was practicing a new song that he had written. For a second, I felt an urge to turn around & book a room somewhere, to avoid the misery. I can these three gentlemen & I know how this usually ends. AND so it became, too…again.

The Christmas tree that was half assembled, had already been decorated with eight hundred Christmas baubles. Well, to make a loooong story short – all the empty boxes disappeared back to the attic, rubbish out in the bin, Christmas light & other decorations in place & a beautiful tree with a gold star at the top. AND we got a quiet & nice moment – even if it was in the middle of the night  - with a hot cup of tea, sandwiches, lit candles & nice, peaceful Christmas music in the background. The funny thing is that we always end up in this chaos – it has become a tradition. All because someone can not learn to plan for this occasion. Or learn from previous years. It’s fortunate that love is strong & can survive almost anything.

Hej hej,

I’m busy at work & also trying to pack all the stuff for the move next week. Although we now are relatively accustomed to moving, it’s after all a lot to be done for everything to go smoothly. Not only the physical part to pack everything but also to organise the whole. Removal firm, cleaners, mail to be forwarded, electricity, pest control … you name it. Come to that, it’s also exhausting with all our discussions about what to be included in the load & what to do with the rest. We can’t agree because everyone has some sort of connection or feeling for whatever comes up as a proposal to be thrown. It doesn’t matter if there are games that haven’t been used in recent years, magazines that remained in a corner since the last time we moved or train tickets which have been saved in a number of years.

Things have their importance – we live with them, uses them, are affected by them & gets with time memories that relate to events, situations & people through them. It’s not so much the actual value, the more the symbolism. We will have to continue to argue until the movers carries off with the load. In any case, we have no choice, we need to try to get along. We are moving from a house with nine rooms to a house with four rooms plus a dining room. Which I think is great, we don’t need all these rooms & spaces. But as I said, we’re not all totally in agreement with each other. And we don’t have to be that either. That’s the beauty with different personalities & opinions.  To discuss, compare, argue & eventually either to agree or compromise.

Mix it / 188

Hej my friends,

I thought I’d give it try to blog about colours / pattern. At least make an attempt, since I’m fairly cautious in using colour myself, especially in combination with too much pattern. I’m rather predictable, a very beige person so to speak. It’s not that I don’t appreciate it. It just feels as it’s too much when those combinations are mixed. It’s always nice & exciting when I see colours & patterns combined somewhere else, whether it’s interior or fashion. I’ve more or less unconsciously, opted out those that are too colourful with too much pattern. If you look really closely below, you’ll see that most images have white walls, to avoid it becoming too cluttered. It’s not that patterned really but enough patterns for my part.

Well, I’m no more exciting than that, actually. But on the other hand, this it’s not about me but about different patterns & mixtures, which I hope will fall to your taste. And possibly inspire you to some more patterns in your everyday life…on your terms :)
