Black & wood / 214

Wood used & worn down until it fades or new timber that has its color & strength left … all kinds of wood are a luxurious feel. A natural materials that live & breathe with the house & the individuals who use it. It is neat with all types of materials & colors … regardless what applies right now. Timeless, simply!  I’m very fond of wood & I use materials that I prefer, of course. It may well be pine, birch or oak, in the first place. Ash might be nice at times, but a little too lifeless for my taste. But as usual, it’s vital how to put it all together. The mix of furniture with flooring materials, colors, fabrics & lighting … in combination with the room size. Even the way the light falls from the windows. It may look a bit pale, yellow or rather, without natural freshness.

I’m right now very fond of darker wood combined with black. A feeling of the fifties without that specific style. Well, with that style too actually, since it’s very appealing. I’m more after the contemporary style with soul…not styled or just copied right off but well thought out & detailed. Take a look at the first two images below. That’s the feeling I mean. But by all means, different woods combined with black details – it always works.

Pretentious perhaps / 213

I can’t make up my mind about skin / leather such as cowhide & the like. I don’t think that I’m fond of them - only to be used as a decoration in the home. The reason being that the animals need them more than we do. It might for some, sound a little pretentious but there are actually other options, in my opinion. I can’t say I mind others using them, it’s up to each one, of course. I understand the attraction as well as the aesthetics of it but still can’t bring myself to it fully. But so what, it’s not a big deal really.

Anyhow, it ‘s interesting how different it can look in different environments. As always, when you mix materials, colours & furniture in a good way. If you then use your creative side to bring on your own touch … well, then, just occupy the place & enjoy. No matter if it’s pretentious with cowhide or not!

Hej friends,

Detail have been standard throughout my working life. It’s true, that small things can determine the whole. It’s like a painting where you see new things each time. Details are relatively important no matter what you work with, more or
less. One might not always perceive them but they are noted unconsciously – something that will determine, confirm or something that you just can feel or sense that adds to your experience. It’s certainly a lot about having an open mind – too. That little last part is sometimes what separates the wheat from the chaff. I’ve picked some images that has some details that may or may not catch your eye. Either way, it’s in the details.

Hej friends, The decorating vein in me, since my time as a window dresser, turns up now & then, to my youngest son’s dismay. Anyway, it was really tough back then, with straight lines, stretched garments, seams, labels or wrinkled parts - they could definitely not be seen. Signs & price tags had to be straight & every single spotlight had to be dust free & well directed. The floor needed to be clinically clean & of course, glass windows well wiped. It was a big production for each window shift & every detail was crucial – those were the days. Still, I find myself with picking up, correcting & moving things to keep them in line & straight, it sit’s in the spine since that time – the old school. That’s probably why I’m so fond of small details, such as still life.
