The closer we get / 227

The closer we get the Christmas, the happier we become, at least I do. I think it’s something in the air… decorations everywhere, people are smiling, happiness – even if it’s a stressful at time, Christmas music etc.

I’ve picked together some pictures that appeals to me, with no specific thought behind. Or no, actually with dining, activities & getting together in mind. I know that there has been a lot about Christmas on the blog of late. But I really love this time of the year with all that this entails. Maybe it’s the actual countdown. Or is it possibly about the planning & the time – to arrange all the preparations & be ready at the last minute. Possibly even the bit with having to wrap all gifts & come up with a rhyme to each one. Maybe it’s just something inherited from childhood, a habit to wait & long for the time with near & dear ones. It could possibly be about the atmosphere that Christmas creates. Either way, it is much that affects, of course – no matter what, take care of your time with those you love & enjoy the tranquility.

Christmas cosiness / 228

Christmas collection form the swedish We have some Christmas decorations at home, mostly in the kitchen & dining area. We are doing what we can to get into a christmassy spirit, despite the heat outside. It’s nice in the evening, when the darkness slowly falls. It gets pitch black outside which makes you feel switched off from the outside world. With the christmas tree, candle lights & the smell of gingerbread in the air, it feels as if Santa will knock on the door, anytime. I can’t  say that we have stressed with any preparation at all. We have been busy with life, that rolls on, regardless. Jobs, schools, meetings & other everyday activities. Plus to bring order at home, after the move…nothing much really –  some structure & things in order. So tonight, we have no plans, just a quiet evening with our boys - on the couch with tea, mulled wine, gingerbread, saffron buns & a Christmas movie … Christmas cosiness, simply.

Easter celebrations / 138

Hej there my friends,

I drove my youngest to medical care centre this morning. He’s been ill with influenza & has now problem with coughing as a result. Anyway, he seemed to look just fine in the car, playing his music & singing along. His music must be played at maximum volume to be enjoyed to the fullest, you see. I don’t mind, I’ve been young once upon time…it’s just that every second word is an F-word. I don’t get it really. I had to comment that they sang around 25 seconds & said the f-word nine times. Was it maybe possible to write songs without all these words & still make it to a hit. His gaze said more than thousands words, I had to drop that discussion – some are simply not open to other options.

There are a few days left before Easter arrives … which of course is celebrated differently by different people. No matter how, it’s an opportunity to gather with our beloved ones to enjoy their company & life in general. I have already begun to relax, instead of accelerating … as many around me are doing right now – even more musts, to live up to, I’m afraid. This is typical us human beings, we  have to stress so much, that when the time comes to relax, there’s not much joy or energy left. This about living in the moment, that’s an art in Itself. It takes time to learn it, as with everything else … practice makes perfect.

I have picked together various images that I associate with easter colours that I’m accustomed with. Our Easter colours are yellow, green with some pink & some blue, in bright shades. Nothing that is particularly different from others, I suppose, even if we like to think that we’re celebrating in our own special little way.

Something red / 103

Hej friends,

I’m for diversity, personal taste, free thinking & different ways of doing things…rather open minded really. But despite that, I often fall back on what I’m used to, how it has been in the past & what I’m familiar with. It’s some truth in the phrase, kill your darlings…what can I say, I just love red for Christmas. For me, Christmas is red, bright red, lacquer red, Santa Claus red…so I’m going with that now, this Christmas also. One don’t have to change everything in this world, really.

I’ve been the one to dress the Christmas tree every year but the past few years, I haven’t felt it particularly motivating … I can’t for anything in the world get it to feel right with the summer season at the same time as Christmas celebrations. I’ve simply stopped to bother about the tree & this has got my guys to almost go through the roof. If they wanted a Christmas tree, they could fix it themselfs then. I imagined that would end the discussion but oh no, they went to look for all our Christmas boxes, buy a tree & find some nice electric light etc.

I left the house for some hours, I could as well do some Christmas shopping meanwhile. Once I was back at home, I had repressed the thought of what they was up to. Lo & behold, they had succeeded remarkably well. It was so nice & tidy. Christmas decorations, Santa’s, candle holders, stars, angels & other decorations were in place. The floors were wiped, the coffee was on, mulled wine was warmed & gingerbread were ready on a tray, it really smelled Christmas in the whole house. (I adjusted a little here & there when no one was watching) but it was really surprisingly good. They  had even decorated the tree with the last final touch for me to do…AND they had bought a plastic one!!!

I’ve mixed some images in today’s post but it’s a single theme – Christmas, of course. Take a look, there’s something red in each one…more or less.

Thursday, leading up to Christmas / 102

Hej guys,

Thursday & just a few days left to Christmas eve the. Christmas is a holiday for everyone, although maybe more special for all children. We used to make it big & beautiful when my children were small. As if I could fulfill all their dreams & hopes with a beautiful decorated home for Christmas. As if all beauty could protect them, take care of them, be kind to them…such as any parent desires for their children. We made everything in the evening when they had gone to bed & it was pure joy to see their faces when they woke up to a total makeover. Someone once said that beauty makes people kind & considerate. There may be some truth in it. Today, they are young men and still look forward to Christmas in the same way as when they were small.

Believe it or not, but they still write wish lists, plays Christmas music to breakfast last week before Christmas, watching Christmas movie almost every evening in December, puts all the gifts under the Christmas tree and … they just have to open one present on Christmas morning right after breakfast…as we did when they were small, just to keep them calm. Traditions are sometimes hard to break. Traditions are hard to break, especially when they’re nice and reminds about fond memories & experiences. Once in a while it’s nice to be small again, at least for Christmas. Here’s some nice images to get you into the Christmas spirit…this Thursday – leading up to Christmas, enjoy!
