Textile candy

Textile candy – materials, textures, color, pattern, design – all kind of fabrics that add warmth and caring for the home. Such as cushions, perfect to use in the sofa of course. Admittedly, these alters the expression of both the couch & the room, but they cause a misery, too – when you have to fix & organize these beauties. It’s not as bad as in the bedroom when everything ends up on the floor, as soon as you want to go to bed. Which also is the reason why I don’t use them in the bed anymore. But to the point, cushions are such a great way to spice up your furniture or your room. It’s easy to create a homely feeling as well as atmosphere through choice of colour, size & quantity – for nice comfort. Not to mention how affordable it is, instead of an expense of the entire room. Moreover, one can easily create constant changes in season without the hassle. Unless you’re the type who likes to sew & fix, to create your own design. Then it is a further plus of course!

Cushion decor / 186

Dear friends,

I mentioned cushions as one of my passions in one of my earlier posts, which now inspired me to do some more blogging with this in mind. So here we go again … I can never get enough of textiles, neither cushions, fabrics, colours & patterns. To be honest, I actually prefer pillow cases because they don’t take any space to store & are easy to wash & iron … instead of whole cushions that have to fit somewhere, when not in use. It’s more common here in Australia, with cushions, than the use of inner cushions with removable covers in different designs.

I usually try to find pieces of fabrics to sew instead. So I can get the design & colour I like. Moreover, it’s easy to change the expression after season or pleasure. You just have to change covers – it’s done in a flash, takes no time. As for sewing, well, well, sewing is perhaps too much to say, submitting those jobs to professionals, is more right. It was a long time ago now, I took the time to sew. Nevertheless, an interior does not feel finished until cushions are in place. Icing on the cake, so to speak :)

More cushions / 121

Hej my friends,

I feel that I have been hooked on textiles of all kinds, for a while now. I hope you don’t mind because here’s one more…about cushions…again! It’s the colors, combinations, materials, surfaces, patterns & design, which makes me unable to get tired. I am going through a cushion period right now…may sound silly, but are very inspiring really. It’s fun with things that so easily can change an room.

We have lots of cushions everywhere right now, they seem to move through the rooms by themselves. But that’s not the case, of course. We have encountered some cushion thefts – such as those which borrows & will immediately be coming back with the stuff … but that somehow don’t seem to find time for it. They are referred to as adolescents & are of the worst kind, in terms of laziness. They are not able to sit, as in sitting down. They need to either lie back halfway or lie down completely. They’ve emptied my cushion cupboard, then taken some of the precious covers & used them to their own pillows which are in European size while the covers are sewn in another sizes – so you can imagine how it looks. Surely, something must happen with those wonders, when they enter a certain age. It seems as if they actually, almost, stop thinking.

I don’t remember that I was like that, at their age … If so, there are good prospects for a substantial improvement & development, since I turned out to be rather ordinary:)

Hej friends, I blogged about rugs the other day & promised to follow up with textiles, which is todays post but I chose to do some research of images with cushions instead. Cushions yes, one of my musts to have at home. A sofa without cushions is like a cappucciono without milk. Or lips without lipstick or, – well you know what I mean, it’s not complete. These little wonders ads so much to a home environment, that is, except, the very comfort they bring. Large, small, round, oblong, plain or patterned - all based on taste & needs. I often buy ready made covers with buttons or a ziper, actually nowadays with Velcro straps – it’s pretty handy. I’m often looking for pieces of fabrics at markets & in shops. I can’t throw away old covers, it’s simply not possible. There’s something special about fabrics that makes me feel the need to store them. My boys have always had large floor cushions in their rooms as well as in the living room – we still have – & I don’t think that they can imagine to be without them today at all. It’s both nice & looks good to use them in the bedroom but I don’t do that because they end up on the floor & al around the place. Functionally certainly but a pain to keep up with. There’s nothing that simple & that makes you feel that you have something new & nice at home as when you simply changes the cushions on the sofa. Seasons become clearer too. At Christmas, in the spring or autumn so as not to mention the summer. What would home life be without textiles – I just wonder? Uninteresting without the cushions / designedforlife
