Warm decoration / 217

Daylight saving has made evenings brighter which of course is the point. However, our evenings are dark – all year round. Even in the summer, when it’s still slightly lighter than usual. In fact, it doesn’t matter, at least not  if you are a lover of light in all its forms. I mean candle light, in this case. Perfect to use all year around & suits all occasions. Stylish lanterns do enhance as well as simplifies … not to mention safety, which always is important. Hot admittedly but still reasonably safe for kids, or if you accidentally fall over them. Candles makes the world go around, right? It’s easy to create a nice & relaxing atmosphere with candle light since they certainly makes spaces more beautiful. Same with people, we are more to our advantage in the glow of candlelight.

I thought I’d follow up last post about candles with this one about lanterns. I can’t claim that I’m a collector of those but I have some which I have  grouped under a side table. I like the mix of polished metal, black steel & wood, in various sizes. - but most of all I like them with lit candles inside, so here towards the evening.

Burning desire / 216

Time flies & Christmas is fast approaching, whether I like or not. AND it’s not that I don’t like Christmas, it’s actually my favorite holiday, no doubt. I now live in a climate with summer & sunshine when it’s Christmas. Something I have great trouble to get used to. For my part, it should be freezing cold, with meter-high snow drifts along the roads, frost, ice & unwillingness to get out from the warmth indoors. Then, & only then, can the Christmas be celebrated. I know it can possibly sound strange or even silly to feel that way, but many years of traditions make their mark.

Today we went to town to buy some little things, stroll around & just relax in the city rush & to enjoy  the beautiful sunny weather. Christmas had arrived – all stores & malls were decorated to the top, as well as restaurants & cafes. It’s strange to see all these decorations, all food & hear Christmas songs to then step out to lightly summer dressed people in the heat. It makes the Christmas spirit a little paler, so to speak. Some might say that you are getting the best of both worlds … which of course in a sense is true, by all means. But still …

Let’s get in the mood with some candle light, the ideal attribute for a perfect Christmas.

Candle in the wind / 89

Hej friends,

This past weekend was the first Sunday of Advent & I’m celebrating it by a post about candles. At home in Sweden, it’s a tremendously beautiful season with candles & candle holders in every window. There’s electric candlesticks – specific Sunday of Advent candle in every home …enough for a whole life time. Christmas is approaching with long strides & brings the need to light candles to light up the dark season. Friends of order will be saying that it’s very light now that the Spring is here in Sydney & about to pass on to summer season. Which is true but it’s still very dark in the evenings. Candles is not merely about a lighter everyday life, it’s also about atmosphere, feeling the smell of candle wax flowing, warmth from the lights & the range of shadow created by the flames. It’s actually deep underlying needs, to feel safe at a fire. This is demonstrated by researchers in various studies & based on the time at the the camp-fires from early times.

Anyway, I’m a big lover of candles & my darling usually say that It looks as in a church in the evenings at home. But when I don’t light up some candles here & there, he is quickly there doing it instead. The smell of candle wax’s almost addictive. Given our consumption at home, it’s like candles in the wind – they sizzles away:)I find it hard to believe that there are anything more beautiful than candle light … in all their simplicity / Trendenser

Just like my dining table…a lot of candle holders in various sizes & styles - completely magical / Athome
