Light grey shades

We are just in the phase to renovate our shed in the garden. It’s around 15-17 square meter & has been used for various storage needs. It’s a perfect little house to furnish as a guest house. And so it will be used too – with relatives that will arrive within four weeks & stay for four weeks. It’s just outside the veranda, in the corner of the garden with all the lovely trees & bushes around. It’s been made in country style which fits well with the rest of the house. We will retain the outside in same style so most of the work will be to get the interior nice, comfortable & functional. All walls white, I guess we will choose white floor also. White tiles for the shower area & for the sink too.

It will not be much color except textiles, rugs & accessories. The usual, so to speak. Colour is always nice in many ways but ” colourless” works well too. To visualize that, I chose to do a post with images in grey – shades of light grey.

Low storage solutions

I prefer freestanding storage solutions rather then the integrated. Those simple, flexible & movable benches preferably, because of the airy impression they give. They don’t take up space & aren’t clumsy either. The good thing is the surface you gain, for the nice things. (Including drawers or open shelfes for the flexibility). On the other hand, how flexible do you need to be … I mean, it’s not that I decorate or rearrange things every other week or so. It wouldn’t work with my way of being. It’s one thing to have a deep interest for things, another, to live & breath your passion. Which can be done in different ways, of course.

I’ve gone from actively breathing an interest, to a more pleasurable distance. May sound strange but I get my fair share through magazines, blogs, some exhibitions, shop visits, where I inevitably look more at the visual impression, decor, collections, shop windows, lighting, etc. than to shop, in real sense. (Well, I do manage to do some shopping, to be honest). Sometimes you eat with your eyes, which is a bit of my principle when I shop. I like to do window shopping – you know, to stroll around, stop here & there, check out news, new colors, certain pattern mix, a particular angle of a wall, floor material – things that  happens automatically. Whilst I don’t miss the actual purchase, when needed.

Coffee culture

Coffee with something small, a snack, has for most of us, regardless of age, become a well trendy socializing-form, an almost sacred ritual. There’s a coffee shop in every corner nowadays. Still, it wasn’t until late 1600s that coffee had its breakthrough. It was regarded as something expensive & exclusive, where only the “elite” could afford the luxury. We have a swedish expression that’s used daily … to grab a fika, which is a coffee with something small & sweet to. It’s hard to believe that it’s the Swedes today who, together with the Finns, are the ones who’s drinking most coffee in the world. There’s a strong coffee culture in Australia too, surely one the best places where the coffee tastes wonderful no matter where you are.

Wikipedea: Coffee is a brewed beverage with a distinct aroma and flavor, prepared from the roasted seeds of the Coffeaplant. The seeds are found in coffee “cherries”, which grow on trees cultivated in over 70 countries, primarily in equatorial Latin AmericaSoutheast AsiaIndia and Africa. Green (unroasted) coffee is one of the most traded agricultural commodities in the world. Coffee is slightly acidic (pH 5.0–5.1) and can have a stimulating effect on humans because of its caffeine content. It is one of the most consumed drinks in the world.

Timeless heroes

I cannot claim that I am a collector of classical design icons. I’m not a collector of anything more than the things who has been with us throughout the years & which, by usage, have gained significant personal value over time. These, including memories & occurrences that are connected with the items, that I cherish. I am trying to reduce on possessions, actually, no matter what they might be worth. You can only own so much or use so much, really. All the moves that we have gone through, has helped to reduce the number of things in the household, thanks & praise. In time, it becomes easier to realize what’s really needed & what’s important. Experiences as well as small moments of happiness – that’s what I collect nowadays. One of those experiences as well as moments of happiness, is the beauty of design classics – our timeless heroes.

Headboards

I wouldn’t have a bed without a headboard, odd as it may sound. It doesn’t look complete in the room, as if it’s yet to be finished. I am not talking about big oversized headboards, the more discrete & almost invisible. It’s more about the feeling as well as comfort. To be able to lean back when reading, are online or talking on the phone.

There are lots of different models of course, but still it’s hard to find just the style that fits. It often happens when you’ve already decided what you want or are looking for, without really being able to put into words how it looks like. Patience, it shows up sooner or later.
